THE num­ber of UK Chevening schol­ar­ships for Malaysians is ex­pected to in­crease fol­low­ing a mem­o­ran­dum of un­der­stand­ing (MoU) signed re­cently be­tween the Bri­tish High Com­mis­sion to Malaysia and Coven­try Univer­sity.

At the cer­e­mony, two new Chevening Schol­ar­ships were an­nounced by Bri­tish High Com­mis­sioner to Malaysia Vicki Tread­ell.

The ad­di­tional schol­ar­ships will fully fund two Malaysians to do a one-year Mas­ter’s de­gree at the Coven­try Univer­sity start­ing from the 2018-2019 ap­pli­ca­tion cy­cle.

The MoU was signed be­tween Tread­ell and Coven­try Univer­sity Re­gional Man­ager for South­east Asia Augviera Bong.

“The Chevening Schol­ar­ship is one of the most im­por­tant in­vest­ments we make in the peo­ple-to-peo­ple re­la­tion­ship with Malaysia. We re­ceived a to­tal of 829 ap­pli­ca­tions for the 2017/18 Chevening Pro­gramme, an 18.26 per cent in­crease from the pre­vi­ous year.

“We want to help Malaysians to ful­fil their dreams in pur­su­ing a Mas­ter’s de­gree in the UK. We want more Malaysians to ap­ply,” said Tread­ell.
