FRENCH Air Force Rafale solo dis­play pi­lot Cap­tain Jean-Guil­laume Martinez knows how to catch the at­ten­tion of a crowd. It is not just the way he flies his jet, screech­ing across the skies, twist­ing and turn­ing the sleek air­craft to the de­light of the crowd.

No, he cap­tures the at­ten­tion — and the hearts — of his au­di­ence in a dif­fer­ent way.

Take this year’s Langkawi In­ter­na­tional Mar­itime and Aerospace (Lima) Exhibition 2017, for in­stance. As the 40-yearold per­forms a “slow pass” of the Mah­suri In­ter­na­tional Exhibition Cen­tre, his ra­dio is patched into the public ad­dress sys­tem and the crowd hears him speak, in Ba­hasa Malaysia, no less.
