Costa ‘did ev­ery­thing’ to re­turn to Atletico but now they may have lost that chance

“El Cholo (Diego Sime­one) knows it wasn’t im­pos­si­ble for me to come back to Atletico.

“The re­la­tion­ship with Conte didn’t start well be­cause when he ar­rived I told him I wanted to go to Atletico. Chelsea’s fans love me a lot, even more than in Atletico, imag­ine!

“I’ve done ev­ery­thing to come to Atletico but it did not hap­pen. I’ve done ev­ery­thing to re­turn to Atletico Madrid but I would not fight like that to re­turn (in the fu­ture). When Atletico had to wait I did not wait.”

Costa put the dis­ap­point­ment of not seal­ing a re­turn to Atletico be­hind him quickly as he led the Premier League scor­ing charts dur­ing much of the early part of the sea­son.

His tally of 17 goals has helped Conte’s side open up a 10-point lead at the top of the ta­ble, with 10 matches left to play. Daily Mail
