Azad’s most challenging role yet

-

HE has taken on many comedic roles prior, but none was as challenging as Herman, a.k.a. Skodeng, the role he played in action movie J Revolusi.

Actor Azad Jazmin said even though Skodeng in the movie is generally desk-bound, but in preparation for the filming of the movie, the 40-year-old was not spared from doing physical training too.

“All the cast members had to undergo tough physical training to prepare ourselves for the role of UTK (Unit Tindakan Khas) personnel,” he said in an interview recently.

Currently busy promoting the blockbuster movie in a string of roadshows nationwide, the husband of actress Eira Syazira said he also had fun playing the character.

“Skodeng is the live wire. He is the one providing comic relief throughout the serious movie,” he said.

And how did he land the role? “Apparently, director Zulkarnain Azhar had me in mind from the beginning. They wanted a UTK man who was serious with his work, yet capable of loosening up the people around him,” he said.

But Azad seemed thrilled with Skodeng’s character development in the sequel, set to begin filming in September.

“At the end of J Revolusi, Skodeng is taken out to do field work with Jay (played by Zul Ariffin). Since he survives in the end, the sequel will see him back with Jay (played by Zul Ariffin) for more action in J Revolusi 2,” he said, adding that he could not wait to showcase some slick moves.

“I am expecting Skodeng to have fist-fight scenes with the baddies next,” he said, adding that he would expect the challenges in playing the role to be two-fold.

Azad played funnymen in Nana Tanjung 2 (his film debut), Ngangkung and Mamak Cupcake, psychos in SAM and best buddies in Girlfriend Kontrak and J Revolusi.

Of Indian, Portuguese and Malay parentage, the Penangborn happy-go-lucky artiste is likely to find his leading role in J Revolusi 2 slated for a next year release.

“I am going to be the second protagonist in the sequel, and that means, I’m going to be my own leading man at last!” said the father of two girls.
