Hong Kong re­calls Brazil­ian meat

HONG KONG: Hong Kong said yes­ter­day it will re­call Brazil­ian meat from 21 pro­cess­ing plants un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion over a rot­ten meat scan­dal. The city, which is the big­gest mar­ket for Brazil­ian beef, had is­sued a ban on all meat im­ports from the coun­try this week. It comes af­ter Brazil­ian po­lice said they had un­cov­ered a scheme to bribe health in­spec­tors to cer­tify tainted meat. China had also sus­pended im­ports and Brazil­ian of­fi­cials said ex­ports had dropped from US$63 mil­lion (RM277 mil­lion) a day to just US$74,000. Agen­cies
