Jing Yi-Joyce stumble at last hurdle
TEE Jing Yi’s hopes of winning her maiden title as a doubles player were dashed yesterday when she and Joyce Choong lost in the final of the Vietnam International Challenge in Hanoi.
The Malaysian duo went down to Japan’s Erina Honda-Nozomi Shimizu 21-14, 19-21, 21-14.
Jing Yi, who made the switch to become a doubles player earlier this year, said: “Our opponents controlled the game better in front of the court.
“Our defence was not as good, and it definitely needs more improvement.
“Our expectation were too high when we made the final, we have to learn how to manage the pressure and focus point by point.”
Jing Yi, who is Joyce’s temporary partner, will next compete at the Malaysia Open in Kuching on April 4-9.
On her target at the Super Series event, Jing Yi added: “We will be playing in the qualifying draw, so our target is to make the main draw first.”
