No Instagram account for my 6-month-old son, says actor Fahrin

SOCIAL media has become the ultimate platform for celebrity parents to show off their little bundles of joy, so much so that some set up Instagram accounts for their offspring even before they could crawl.

While it is nice for fans to see these kids grow in the spotlight, actor Fahrin Ahmad, 37, who is father to 6-month-old Khalifa Fahrel, said he preferred to not overly expose his son on social media.

“My son does not have his own Instagram account.

“But I do upload photos of him once in a while on my Instagram account or my wife’s (Elena Hani) account, so fans can catch a glimpse of him there,” he said in Kuala Lumpur recently.

“In the era of social media, everything is archived into a digital platform.

“When an Instagram profile is made public, people will leave comments, good and bad.

“How will he react as an adult if he were read the comments?

“Maybe people are unaware of that, but that is my point of view.

“When he’s old enough to make his own decisions, my wife and I will let him set up a social media account and we’ll guide him through it.

“But, then again, this is just my opinion.

“Everybody has his way of raising children,” said Fahrin, whose last drama was Kerana Anisa, alongside Zara Zya on TV3 in January.

Fahrin, who is working on a few telemovies and a drama series scheduled to air soon, said he was much more selective now when accepting job offers after the birth of his son.

“As actors, we need to spend long hours on set, sometimes 14 to 16 hours a day.

“It is a little hard now that I have a baby at home.

“People tell me, babies go through drastic changes before they turn 1, so I wouldn’t want to miss those moments with my son.”

He said he felt blessed that his wife, who has left her cabin crew job to care for their son, sent him photos and updates when he was away.
