Disciplinary action against district Rela chief
KUALA LUMPUR: The Selama district Rela chief will face disciplinary action over his failure to conduct a firearms inventory when he took over duty in 2015.
This follows reports that 26 shotguns had been taken from the district headquarters, for which his predecessor is being investigated.
“He had failed to conduct the inspection at that time, hence he was not aware that the weapons had gone missing. Action will be taken against him,” said Rela director-general Zulkifli Abidin yesterday.
On the former district Rela chief, he said the 55-year-old man, who was stationed in Pengkalan Hulu, had been suspended pending the probe into the case.
“If he is proven guilty, disciplinary action will be taken.”
Zulkifli said a joint task force comprising Rela, police and Home Ministry officers was set up on Friday to look into and improve weapons storage management.
The theft was discovered after the federal police’s Government Agency Firearms Licence Enforcement Unit inspected and audited the Northern Region Rela Training Centre in Sungai Petani.
