Dis­ci­plinary ac­tion against dis­trict Rela chief

KUALA LUMPUR: The Se­lama dis­trict Rela chief will face dis­ci­plinary ac­tion over his fail­ure to con­duct a firearms in­ven­tory when he took over duty in 2015.

This fol­lows re­ports that 26 shot­guns had been taken from the dis­trict head­quar­ters, for which his pre­de­ces­sor is be­ing in­ves­ti­gated.

“He had failed to con­duct the in­spec­tion at that time, hence he was not aware that the weapons had gone miss­ing. Ac­tion will be taken against him,” said Rela di­rec­tor-gen­eral Zulk­i­fli Abidin yes­ter­day.

On the for­mer dis­trict Rela chief, he said the 55-year-old man, who was sta­tioned in Pengkalan Hulu, had been sus­pended pend­ing the probe into the case.

“If he is proven guilty, dis­ci­plinary ac­tion will be taken.”

Zulk­i­fli said a joint task force com­pris­ing Rela, po­lice and Home Min­istry of­fi­cers was set up on Fri­day to look into and im­prove weapons stor­age man­age­ment.

The theft was dis­cov­ered af­ter the fed­eral po­lice’s Gov­ern­ment Agency Firearms Li­cence En­force­ment Unit in­spected and au­dited the North­ern Re­gion Rela Train­ing Cen­tre in Sun­gai Pe­tani.
