Deal inked to pre­serve, up­grade Sabak Ber­nam land­fill

SHAH ALAM: For a bet­ter and safer en­vi­ron­ment, World­wide Hold­ings Bhd (World­wide Hold­ings) has signed a 10-year con­ces­sion with Sabak Ber­nam Dis­trict Coun­cil (MDSB) to re­ha­bil­i­tate, pre­serve and up­grade the non-san­i­tary land­fill in Pan­chang Be­dena, Sabak Ber­nam.

World­wide Hold­ings chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Datin Paduka No­ra­zlina Zakaria said the part­ner­ship would en­sure that the man­age­ment of solid waste was car­ried out ef­fec­tively.

She said pre­lim­i­nary work on the non-san­i­tary land­fill be­gan in Au­gust 2015 and it was up­graded to a san­i­tary land­fill in March last year.

“Pre­vi­ously, the site was about 4.04ha but with this new col­lab­o­ra­tion, we have ac­quired an ad­di­tional 6.07ha.

“The san­i­tary land­fill has the ca­pac­ity to han­dle about 60 tonnes of solid waste per day,” she said af­ter sign­ing the agree­ment with MDSB at its head of­fice in Sec­tion 7 here yes­ter­day.

“Apart from Pan­chang Be­dena, we are op­er­at­ing and man­ag­ing two san­i­tary land­fills in Jeram, Kuala Se­lan­gor, and Tan­jung 12, Kuala Lan­gat.”

She said with the leachate treat­ment sys­tem, peo­ple in Sabak Ber­nam would not face en­vi­ron­men­tal pol­lu­tion caused by open burn­ing of solid waste.
