Deal inked to preserve, upgrade Sabak Bernam landfill
SHAH ALAM: For a better and safer environment, Worldwide Holdings Bhd (Worldwide Holdings) has signed a 10-year concession with Sabak Bernam District Council (MDSB) to rehabilitate, preserve and upgrade the non-sanitary landfill in Panchang Bedena, Sabak Bernam.
Worldwide Holdings chief executive officer Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria said the partnership would ensure that the management of solid waste was carried out effectively.
She said preliminary work on the non-sanitary landfill began in August 2015 and it was upgraded to a sanitary landfill in March last year.
“Previously, the site was about 4.04ha but with this new collaboration, we have acquired an additional 6.07ha.
“The sanitary landfill has the capacity to handle about 60 tonnes of solid waste per day,” she said after signing the agreement with MDSB at its head office in Section 7 here yesterday.
“Apart from Panchang Bedena, we are operating and managing two sanitary landfills in Jeram, Kuala Selangor, and Tanjung 12, Kuala Langat.”
She said with the leachate treatment system, people in Sabak Bernam would not face environmental pollution caused by open burning of solid waste.
