TSG aiming for glory in Japan

New Straits Times - - Sport -

TERENGGANU Cycling Team (TSG) have chosen Mohd Zamri Saleh, Muhamad Adiq Husainie Othman, Goh Choon Huat, Daniel Whitehouse, Maral-Erdene Batmunkh and Mohd Shahrul Mat Amin to compete in the Tour de Togichi which starts on Friday.

Team manager Danny Feng said the course profile will suit the likes of Whitehouse, Choon Huat and Sharul very well but the weather factor is something Danny is concerned about.

“It will be 10-15 degrees (Celsius) in Japan, so it may be better for Batmunkh, who grew up in Mongolia, where 15 degrees is considered warm,” he said.

Danny said the team should be wary of competition from Team Ukyo and Kinan Cycling Team as both Japanese sides have strong and experienced riders who will excel on home soil.

“Ukyo is ranked third in UCI’s (International Cycling Union) Asia team ranking, just ahead of TSG. Kinan are just three points behind us, so we need to achieve good results to catch up with Ukyo and stay ahead of Kinan.”

Last week, TSG competed in the Junior Cycling Malaysia (JCM) event in Nilai to prepare for Japan but the outcome was better than anticipated, especially when it came to their young riders, Che Ku Mohd Nazmie, Che Ku Mohd Syamil and Muhd Zulhilmie Afif.

“Zamri finished second in JCM Nilai. It was also a good experience for our younger riders because they don’t have too many opportunities to go to UCI races with the team just yet but it is very important for them to race with other members of TSG to learn teamwork and gain experience.” FARAH AZHARIE
