48 teams for VI Premier 10s

THE ninth edi­tion of the Victoria In­sti­tu­tion (VI) Premier 10s Rugby Tour­na­ment this week­end prom­ises to be ac­tion-packed with 48 teams set to do bat­tle.

Adding spice will be one team from Sin­ga­pore in the tour­na­ment which is di­vided into two cat­e­gories — Un­der-15 and Un­der-17.

The Un­der-17 cham­pi­ons will hoist the 24-karat gold plated G.E.D. Lewis Chal­lenge Cup, named af­ter one of VI’s head­mas­ters who had steered the school to var­i­ous ac­co­lades, in­clud­ing rugby.

Among the teams that will be in ac­tion are RMC, KGV, SM Sains Hulu Se­lan­gor, St John’s In­sti­tu­tion, Seko­lah Dato Abd Razak, SM Sains Tunku Jaa­far, Malay Col­lege, St An­drew Col­lege of Sin­ga­pore, STAR Ipoh, SMS Alam Shah (ASIS), SM Sains Se­lan­gor, SM Teknik KL, SBPI Gom­bak, King Ed­ward VII of Taip­ing, SMK Sri Mers­ing, Malacca High School, STI Batu Pa­hat, SSAAS Shah Alam, MRSM Felda, Ben­gal Club, In­tek, In­ter­grasi Gom­bak, KL Saraceans, KL Tigers, In­ter­grasi Jem­pol, SAS PutraJaya, English Col­lege, Akademi Ragbi Tereng­ganu, Kosas and Victoria In­sti­tu­tion.

The teams will slug it out via a round-robin stage to­mor­row and the qual­i­fied sides will go through the knock-out stages on Sun­day.

The fi­nals of the Fork, Spoon, Shield, Bowl, Plate and Cup cat­e­gories will also be played on Sun­day.

For the first time, the Cup win­ners of both cat­e­gories will re­ceive RM1,000 while the run­nerups will each earn RM500.

The tour­na­ment is sup­ported by PRIVASIA, DBKL, the Victoria In­sti­tu­tion OId Boys As­so­ci­a­tion (VIOBA) and VIOBA Foun­da­tion.

Com­ing in as spon­sors are Cere­bos, McDon­ald’s Malaysia, Nes­tle, PRAN, Home Di­rect, Re­vive and PSG.
