48 teams for VI Premier 10s
THE ninth edition of the Victoria Institution (VI) Premier 10s Rugby Tournament this weekend promises to be action-packed with 48 teams set to do battle.
Adding spice will be one team from Singapore in the tournament which is divided into two categories — Under-15 and Under-17.
The Under-17 champions will hoist the 24-karat gold plated G.E.D. Lewis Challenge Cup, named after one of VI’s headmasters who had steered the school to various accolades, including rugby.
Among the teams that will be in action are RMC, KGV, SM Sains Hulu Selangor, St John’s Institution, Sekolah Dato Abd Razak, SM Sains Tunku Jaafar, Malay College, St Andrew College of Singapore, STAR Ipoh, SMS Alam Shah (ASIS), SM Sains Selangor, SM Teknik KL, SBPI Gombak, King Edward VII of Taiping, SMK Sri Mersing, Malacca High School, STI Batu Pahat, SSAAS Shah Alam, MRSM Felda, Bengal Club, Intek, Intergrasi Gombak, KL Saraceans, KL Tigers, Intergrasi Jempol, SAS PutraJaya, English College, Akademi Ragbi Terengganu, Kosas and Victoria Institution.
The teams will slug it out via a round-robin stage tomorrow and the qualified sides will go through the knock-out stages on Sunday.
The finals of the Fork, Spoon, Shield, Bowl, Plate and Cup categories will also be played on Sunday.
For the first time, the Cup winners of both categories will receive RM1,000 while the runnerups will each earn RM500.
The tournament is supported by PRIVASIA, DBKL, the Victoria Institution OId Boys Association (VIOBA) and VIOBA Foundation.
Coming in as sponsors are Cerebos, McDonald’s Malaysia, Nestle, PRAN, Home Direct, Revive and PSG.
