KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corp Bhd’s (BCorp) net profit rose 44.6 per cent to RM27.3 million in the third quarter ended January 31 , from a RM15.8 million net profit a year ago.

Group revenue edged up 2.4 per cent to RM2.22 billion from RM2.16 billion previously.

Year-to-date, the net profit was down 29.6 per cent to RM136.7 million from RM194.2 million previously, despite revenue rising 5.63 per cent to RM6.9 billion.

BCorp said the higher quarterly revenue was fuelled by property investment and development segments.

This was mainly due to sales of several units of residences in Japan.

Its hotels and resorts, restaurant and cafe businesses also reported higher revenues.

BCorp’s gaming operations, Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd, posted lower revenue in the current quarter mainly due to an additional Goods and Services Tax adjustment of RM15.6 million.

BCorp said the last quarter of the financial year ending April 30 2017 would be challenging.
