Re­tail gi­ant strength­ens po­si­tion with its 25th hyper­mar­ket in Malaysia

MY­DIN Mo­hamed Hold­ings Bhd con­tin­ues to strengthen its po­si­tion in the coun­try with the open­ing of a sec­ond hyper­mar­ket in Sarawak, amid the chal­leng­ing global mar­ket en­vi­ron­ment.

The My­din Ci­tyONE, lo­cated next to the Ci­tyONE Mega­mall shop­ping com­plex, is the whole­sale and re­tail gi­ant’s 25th hyper­mar­ket in the coun­try.

The RM25 mil­lion hyper­mar­ket, with a 92,045-sq-ft space, was of­fi­cially opened by My­din man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Datuk Wira Ameer Ali My­din and ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor Datuk Mu­rad Ali My­din, here, yes­ter­day.

“Works are un­der­way to de­velop our third hyper­mar­ket in Vista Tunku, Pe­tra Jaya, near here. We hope it can be com­pleted in Oc­to­ber this year,” he said.

For fur­ther ex­pan­sion, Ameer said My­din had iden­ti­fied two po­ten­tial lo­ca­tions in Sabah, apart from can­vass­ing for sev­eral other ar­eas in Sarawak, such as Sibu, Bin­tulu and Miri.

“In Sabah, con­struc­tion of a hyper­mar­ket is un­der­way in San­dakan and we have also iden­ti­fied a site in Kota Kin­a­balu,” said Ameer.

My­din would also open two hy­per­mar­kets in Mu­tiara Rini, Jo­hor, and Jengka, Pa­hang, this year, he added..

Ameer said My­din was also com­mit­ted to pro­vid­ing em­ploy­ment as well as busi­ness op­por­tu­ni­ties for the lo­cals through the open­ing of its new hy­per­mar­kets na­tion­wide.

“Last year, we con­ducted a fruit­ful busi­ness-match­ing ses­sion with small- and medium-in­dus­try en­trepreneurs in the state fol­low­ing the open­ing of My­din Sa­mar­i­ang.

Ameer said My­din had also col­lab­o­rated with Proc­ter & Gam­ble Malaysia and a non-gov­ern­men­tal or­gan­i­sa­tion to help women en­trepreneurs, es­pe­cially mothers, in their busi­nesses.
