2ND MYDIN STORE IN SARAWAK
Retail giant strengthens position with its 25th hypermarket in Malaysia
MYDIN Mohamed Holdings Bhd continues to strengthen its position in the country with the opening of a second hypermarket in Sarawak, amid the challenging global market environment.
The Mydin CityONE, located next to the CityONE Megamall shopping complex, is the wholesale and retail giant’s 25th hypermarket in the country.
The RM25 million hypermarket, with a 92,045-sq-ft space, was officially opened by Mydin managing director Datuk Wira Ameer Ali Mydin and executive director Datuk Murad Ali Mydin, here, yesterday.
“Works are underway to develop our third hypermarket in Vista Tunku, Petra Jaya, near here. We hope it can be completed in October this year,” he said.
For further expansion, Ameer said Mydin had identified two potential locations in Sabah, apart from canvassing for several other areas in Sarawak, such as Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.
“In Sabah, construction of a hypermarket is underway in Sandakan and we have also identified a site in Kota Kinabalu,” said Ameer.
Mydin would also open two hypermarkets in Mutiara Rini, Johor, and Jengka, Pahang, this year, he added..
Ameer said Mydin was also committed to providing employment as well as business opportunities for the locals through the opening of its new hypermarkets nationwide.
“Last year, we conducted a fruitful business-matching session with small- and medium-industry entrepreneurs in the state following the opening of Mydin Samariang.
Ameer said Mydin had also collaborated with Procter & Gamble Malaysia and a non-governmental organisation to help women entrepreneurs, especially mothers, in their businesses.
