TAN Cheng Hoe is eager to return as national assistant coach after the coach received his release letter from the Kedah FA (KFA) on Friday.

The 49-year-old has informed the FA of Malaysia (FAM) on the development and is now waiting to sign an official contract with the national body.

“It was a huge surprise to get the release letter yesterday as I thought I would be coaching Kedah until the end of their campaign in the FA Cup,” Cheng Hoe told Timesport yesterday.

“I have told FAM general-secretary Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin (about my release) and he will discuss with president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim my contract offer. Hopefully, the matter will be sorted out soon.

“There are still terms in my contract, such as compensation, with KFA that FAM need to look into. I am still in Alor Star but once everything is official, I will start my job as the national assistant coach.”

It is learnt that Cheng Hoe is expected to be offered a two-year contract with an attractive salary package.

Cheng Hoe was assistant to K. Rajagobal for four years before the national coach's contract ended at the end of 2013.
