Ex-mosque committee duo held over waqaf land deal
MALACCA: The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday arrested the former chairman and secretary of the AlHamideen Mosque committee for alleged graft involving RM116,000 in the sale of waqaf land owned by the mosque.
The pair were arrested after questioning at the MACC state headquarters here at 7pm.
Investigations showed that the former chairman, 61, and former secretary, 46, were allegedly involved in the sale of land in Kampung Bukit Cina in 2012 to a nonMuslim buyer without going through procedures.
They were alleged to have received payments to benefit themselves in the sale of the land, which was under their care.
The case is investigated under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 and Section 405 of the Penal Code.
MACC investigations director Datuk Simi Abd Ghani, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the suspects would be remanded today to assist in investigations.
