Ex-mosque com­mit­tee duo held over waqaf land deal

MALACCA: The Malaysian Anti Cor­rup­tion Com­mis­sion (MACC) yes­ter­day ar­rested the for­mer chair­man and sec­re­tary of the AlHamideen Mosque com­mit­tee for al­leged graft in­volv­ing RM116,000 in the sale of waqaf land owned by the mosque.

The pair were ar­rested af­ter ques­tion­ing at the MACC state head­quar­ters here at 7pm.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions showed that the for­mer chair­man, 61, and for­mer sec­re­tary, 46, were al­legedly in­volved in the sale of land in Kam­pung Bukit Cina in 2012 to a nonMus­lim buyer with­out go­ing through pro­ce­dures.

They were al­leged to have re­ceived pay­ments to ben­e­fit them­selves in the sale of the land, which was un­der their care.

The case is in­ves­ti­gated un­der Sec­tion 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 and Sec­tion 405 of the Pe­nal Code.

MACC in­ves­ti­ga­tions di­rec­tor Datuk Simi Abd Ghani, when con­tacted, con­firmed the ar­rests and said the sus­pects would be re­manded to­day to as­sist in in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
