Young creative writers stand to win RM77,000 in cash prizes

BERITA Harian (BH) is offering cash prizes totaling RM77,000 to young creative writers. Yesterday, it launched the “Sayembara Novel Remaja dan Kanak-kanak 2017” (Teen and Children’s Novel Contest), a first if its kind, at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here.
BH group editor Datuk Mahfar Ali said the contest was aimed at producing literature suitable for youngsters.
“We hope this contest will bring out the best works of writing for the new generation, which at the same time, can help produce good characters among our children.
“Through the contest, BH offers space for a healthy competition among young writers and literature fans.
“They are to produce positive writings, needed in primary and secondary schools.”
Present were BH deputy group editor Datuk Badrulhisham Othman and Majlis Buku Kebangsaan Malaysia director Abd Wahab Ibrahim.
Prizes for the teen novel category are RM15,000 for first place, RM12,000 for second place, RM10,000 for third place and two consolation prizes of RM5,000 each.
For children’s novel, the first prize is RM10,000, RM8,000 for second place, RM6,000 for third place and RM3,000 each for two consolation prizes.
The contest is in conjunction with BH’s 60th anniversary.
