Young cre­ative writ­ers stand to win RM77,000 in cash prizes

BERITA Har­ian (BH) is of­fer­ing cash prizes to­tal­ing RM77,000 to young cre­ative writ­ers. Yes­ter­day, it launched the “Sayembara Novel Remaja dan Kanak-kanak 2017” (Teen and Chil­dren’s Novel Con­test), a first if its kind, at Pu­tra World Trade Cen­tre (PWTC) here.

BH group edi­tor Datuk Mah­far Ali said the con­test was aimed at pro­duc­ing lit­er­a­ture suitable for young­sters.

“We hope this con­test will bring out the best works of writ­ing for the new gen­er­a­tion, which at the same time, can help pro­duce good char­ac­ters among our chil­dren.

“Through the con­test, BH of­fers space for a healthy com­pe­ti­tion among young writ­ers and lit­er­a­ture fans.

“They are to pro­duce pos­i­tive writ­ings, needed in pri­mary and sec­ondary schools.”

Pre­sent were BH deputy group edi­tor Datuk Badrul­hisham Oth­man and Ma­jlis Buku Ke­bangsaan Malaysia di­rec­tor Abd Wa­hab Ibrahim.

Prizes for the teen novel cat­e­gory are RM15,000 for first place, RM12,000 for sec­ond place, RM10,000 for third place and two con­so­la­tion prizes of RM5,000 each.

For chil­dren’s novel, the first prize is RM10,000, RM8,000 for sec­ond place, RM6,000 for third place and RM3,000 each for two con­so­la­tion prizes.

The con­test is in con­junc­tion with BH’s 60th an­niver­sary.
