Bank Rakyat launches Barakah app

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Rakyat has in­tro­duced an Is­lam-cen­tric and non-com­mer­cial app called Barakah which fea­tures Qu­ranic verses, za­kat rates and other information.

Its pub­lic re­la­tions and cor­po­rate brand­ing man­ager Nizam Abu Samah said the free app in Ba­hasa Malaysia was part of the bank’s cor­po­rate so­cial re­spon­si­bil­ity (CSR) pro­gramme.

He said Barakah, avail­able from to­day, was ex­pected to see 50,000 down­loads by the end of the year.

He said the app’s first phase in­cluded ca­pa­bil­i­ties like lo­cat­ing the near­est mosque. The sec­ond phase will have more fea­tures such as list­ings of halal restau­rants overseas and e-books.

“Fu­ture phases will in­clude haj and um­rah guides,” said Nizam dur­ing a visit to New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd yes­ter­day.
