‘Rise in youth mem­bers proves Umno’s rel­e­vance’

SEREM­BAN: Umno’s in­crease in youth mem­ber­ship re­flects its suit­able for­mula in cater­ing to the in­ter­ests of the group.

Ne­gri Sem­bi­lan Umno li­ai­son com­mit­tee chair­man Datuk Seri Mo­hamad Hasan said: “The in­creas­ing num­ber of youths join­ing the party has de­bunked al­le­ga­tions that Umno is not rel­e­vant.

“In­stead, the party re­mains strong and solid.”

Mo­hamad said this yes­ter­day af­ter flag­ging off the Umno Flag Run 2017 here.

Serem­ban Umno di­vi­sion chief Datuk Abu Ubaidah Redza said the en­rol­ment of many youths was a tes­ta­ment to the party’s strength.

“This flag run dis­plays our sol­i­dar­ity. Umno should hold more such events to boost ca­ma­raderie be­tween the young and the older gen­er­a­tion.

“The flag run will ex­pose youth mem­bers to the sig­nif­i­cance of the party, as well as its role in unit­ing Malays,” Abu Ubaidah told the New Straits Times here yes­ter­day.

The flag run in Ne­gri Sem­bi­lan con­tin­ued for the sec­ond day yes­ter­day, with some 500 mo­tor­cy­clists ac­com­pa­ny­ing some 200 run­ners from Rem­bau to Sika­mat.

En­thu­si­asm was high among some 1,000 Umno mem­bers and sup­port­ers here, who had gath­ered as early as 7am to wit­ness
