Jakarta to sue over 2009 oil spill

JAKARTA: The govern­ment is su­ing Thai­land’s state-owned PTT and PTT Ex­plo­ration and Pro­duc­tion for around 27.5 tril­lion ru­piah (RM8.67 bil­lion) for al­leged dam­age to the en­vi­ron­ment from an oil spill in the Ti­mor Sea eight years ago. PTT sub­sidiary PTTEP was fined A$510,000 (RM1.7 mil­lion) by a Dar­win court in 2011. In­done­sia al­leges that the oil spill also fouled ar­eas in East Nusa Teng­gara prov­ince, and filed a suit on Wed­nes­day against PTT, PTTEP and PTTEP Aus­trala­sia.
