MCKK geared up for VI test
MALAY College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) All Blacks will meet old rivals Victoria Institution (VI) in the final of the SuperSix Tournament on Saturday for the Malaysia Airports Manager Challenge Trophy.
With only four teams competing, MCKK All Blacks did themselves proud as they defeated defending champions Tuanku Abdul Rahman School (STAR) 19-13 last Saturday in Ipoh and head coach Fidzamil Basarudin feels it should not go to waste.
“We faced a daunting task to get to the final because the schedule is packed and we’re just hoping to win this because we have sacrificed a lot of playing time.
“And we won against STAR, so we shouldn’t let this opportunity wither just like that.”
Fidzamil said they have pinpointed the weaknesses MCKK All Blacks have to overcome in order to face VI.
“We saw a couple of things lacking here and there that need to be fixed and we have to work on our attacking skills.
“VI look outstanding and we need to make sure that we keep that in mind because they have a good kicker and their strategy is clean.”
MCKK All Blacks will be led by captain Zamir Mohd Shaiful Aizi as they try to win the trophy they lifted in 2014.
“We really want that trophy because we’ve won it previously but the most important part is, we have a history and tradition to uphold so we cannot lose to VI.”
The final match will take place on Saturday at 8.30pm at the Sayyidina Hamzah Stadium at Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) in Gombak.
STAR will take on Sultan Alam Shah School in the Plate category as they fight for third and fourth place at 4pm.
The SuperSix Tournament offers a total prize purse of RM13,000 with support from the Malaysian Rugby Union (MRU) through their National Rugby Development Programme (NDRP) as well as Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) maintaining as the main sponsor for a fourth consecutive year. Farah Azharie
