OLYMPIAN Johnathan Wong came close to earning a sweet double in the men’s 10m air pistol individual at the Southeast Asian (SEASA) Shooting Championships yesterday.

Johnathan gave Rio Olympic champion Hoang Xuan Vinh of Vietnam a run for his money in his favourite event.

He fought well but only managed a final round of 8.1 to settle for silver with a total of 233.2 points.

Xuan Vinh, who made Olympic history by winning the air pistol event in Rio last year, amassed 10.3 in the final round to earn gold with 238.9.

National shooter Choo Wen Yan finished third with 213.7 points but the bronze went to Singapore’s Lim Swee Hon, who managed 195.1 under the onecountry one-medal ruling.

Johnathan, however, still stood on top of the podium as he combined with Wen Yan and Eddy Chew to win the 10m air pistol team event.
