SOME 300 participants took part in the Selangor leg of the Umno 71st anniversary flag run yesterday, which kicked off from the Selangor Umno Building here.

The participants comprised members from the Kapar, Kota Raja, Shah Alam and Subang Umno divisions.

Selangor Umno liaison committee chief Tan Sri Noh Omar, who flagged off the participants, said: “I am glad to see the strong display of unity among members and hope it continues until the general election.”

Noh said the runners would carry the Sang Saka Bangsa flags to Kuala Lumpur.

The flags were handed over to Umno’s Federal Territories representatives.

The event also saw former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abu Hassan Omar and former national unity and social development minister Tan Sri Zaleha Ismail being awarded the Anugerah Tokoh Umno Terbilang Selangor for their contributions.

Zaleha reminded party members to support its president, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

She also said if Umno members wished to remain strong so that Barisan Nasional could win the next election, they must stay united.

“Umno members are the backbone of the party and it is vital to support the top leadership,” she said.
