Dis­ney earn­ings up but ESPN strug­gles

NEW YORK: Dis­ney re­ported higher sec­ond-quar­ter profit on Tues­day de­spite low earn­ings at ESPN net­work, which has been un­der pres­sure with the rise of stream­ing. Net in­come for the quar­ter end­ing April 1 came in at US$2.4 bil­lion (RM10.43 bil­lion), up 11.4 per cent from a year ago. Rev­enues were US$13.3 bil­lion, up 2.8 per cent. Strong points in­cluded Dis­ney’s parks and re­sorts busi­ness and a ro­bust box-of­fice per­for­mance. But earn­ings in ca­ble net­works fell three per cent to US$1.8 bil­lion.
