GEORGE TOWN’S SHANTY TOWNS A MESS
READERS in George Town complain of two areas that need attention from the authorities.
A reader in Kota Giam, Jelutong, said people, mostly foreigners, lived in shanty homes.
An occupant of a wooden stilted house said she rented the place from another foreigner for RM400 per month.
The houses had broken walls and doors, and the area was surrounded with muddy water filled with trash.
In Jalan Patani, Taman Sri Petani, residents claimed there were several abandoned incomplete units.
“We do not know who own these units,” said Rahmat, a resident.
Rahmat, who occupies a unit on the sixth floor of the flats, said there was trash strewn all over these units.
Dilapidated houses on stilts and unfinished units at six-storey flats in Penang put residents’ lives at risk.
