New Straits Times - - News -

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has disputed Pas’ allegation that her party was unfaithful to their tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation).

She said PKR had never betrayed the principles of the cooperation since reaching their political consensus.

She said PKR took note of Pas’ Syura Council decision to severe ties despite various attempts to preserve their cooperation.

“This latest development will not, in any way, affect the Selangor government, seeing that it has received the full mandate from the Selangor people.

“The Selangor government, under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, will continue to function as usual,” she said yesterday.

Pas Syura Council secretary Datuk Dr Mohd Nik Zawawi Salleh, after a press conference earlier on the same day, had reportedly said the cooperation with PKR ended with immediate effect due to three reasons.

These included PKR not supporting Pas in some of its Islamic agendas, such as Act 355; being critical of Pas leadership and principles; and for working with others that were trying to topple the Kelantan government during the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections last year.

In response, Dr Wan Azizah said PKR had, in principle, supported Pas’ effort to strengthen the syariah courts as stated in the media statement by former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on April 8.

She said his statement was PKR’s official stand on the matter.
