SELANGOR Pas executive council (exco) members were never asked to resign from their posts during a meeting with Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali on Friday, said state Pas leaders.

Pas exco member Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said such a matter was not even discussed during their meeting with Azmin, which was attended by newly-appointed Selangor Pas commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi.

Yunus, who is the exco member for Islamic religious affairs, Malay customs and heritage, rural development and traditional village, said he was shocked to read a news report, carried by an English publication, claiming that Azmin had made the request.

“The latest message from Azmin was that he will put Pas exco members in his cabinet.

“That is why I was so shocked to read The Star this morning.

“I wonder who made this up,” Yunus said yesterday.

He said the meeting saw a discussion between the three exco members — Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, Zaidy Abdul Talib and himself — and Azmin about the Pas Syura Council’s decision to end tahalluf siyasi (political cooperation) with PKR, where Azmin asked each of them about their opinions on the issue.

Yunus said he and his colleagues would digest opinions from all parties, including decisions by the Pas central committee before deciding whether to stay.

“From what I was told, the menteri besar will meet his party president (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail), while at the Pas level, we are waiting for the central committee’s decision.

“It is not right for me to comment on something that has not happened,” Yunus said.

When asked about Azmin’s statement that the PKR deputy president was disappointed with the Pas Syura Council’s decision (to sever ties with PKR), Yunus said it was Azmin’s right.

Sallehen, who is Sijangkang assemblyman, echoed Yunus’s statement, saying he did not hear about the resignation requests coming from Azmin.

“It was not discussed yesterday.

“I can’t be sure of this information, as I did not hear it from Azmin.”

Azmin’s political secretary, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei, when asked about the news report, also refuted it.

“Our statement is as what was said yesterday.

“How could the newspaper publish such a report?”
