Zahid says heads of groups should re­flect the coun­try’s racial com­po­si­tion

THE lineup of lead­ers rep­re­sent­ing youth as­so­ci­a­tions should ac­cu­rately re­flect the coun­try’s racial com­po­si­tion, said Deputy Prime Min­is­ter Datuk Seri Dr Ah­mad Zahid Hamidi.

He urged the Malaysian Youth Coun­cil (MYC) to re­view its con­sti­tu­tion to en­sure its lead­er­ship at the na­tional, state and dis­trict lev­els was racially di­verse.

Zahid said he wanted the Youth and Sports Min­istry to sit down with MYC to look into the re­view.

“Youth as­so­ci­a­tions must see the par­tic­i­pa­tion of peo­ple of dif­fer­ent races. The lead­er­ships of such as­so­ci­a­tions should re­flect the coun­try’s racial com­po­si­tion,” he said be­fore pre­sent­ing the Na­tional Youth Premier awards here yes­ter­day.

Present were Youth and Sports Min­is­ter Khairy Ja­malud­din and MYC pres­i­dent Mua’am­mar Ghadafi Ja­mal Ja­maludin.

Khairy said he would hold a meet­ing with MYC to dis­cuss Zahid’s pro­posal.

Mean­while, Zahid said he wanted the Youth and Sports Min­istry to dis­burse govern­ment al­lo­ca­tions within a month to youth as­so­ci­a­tions to carry out their ac­tiv­i­ties.

Zahid later pre­sented the Na­tional Youth Premier award to Ke­lab Beli­awa­nis Sri Sepang (as­so­ci­a­tion cat­e­gory).

Other award re­cip­i­ents were Muham­mad Sherzan Nizam Ab­dul Aziz (male cat­e­gory), Nu­rul Sya­fi­nas Ishak (fe­male cat­e­gory), Ka Kai Fong (Premier Young Gold award cat­e­gory) and Dr Mohd Lutfi Fadil Lok­man (spe­cial award cat­e­gory).
