THE lineup of leaders representing youth associations should accurately reflect the country’s racial composition, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He urged the Malaysian Youth Council (MYC) to review its constitution to ensure its leadership at the national, state and district levels was racially diverse.
Zahid said he wanted the Youth and Sports Ministry to sit down with MYC to look into the review.
“Youth associations must see the participation of people of different races. The leaderships of such associations should reflect the country’s racial composition,” he said before presenting the National Youth Premier awards here yesterday.
Present were Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and MYC president Mua’ammar Ghadafi Jamal Jamaludin.
Khairy said he would hold a meeting with MYC to discuss Zahid’s proposal.
Meanwhile, Zahid said he wanted the Youth and Sports Ministry to disburse government allocations within a month to youth associations to carry out their activities.
Zahid later presented the National Youth Premier award to Kelab Beliawanis Sri Sepang (association category).
Other award recipients were Muhammad Sherzan Nizam Abdul Aziz (male category), Nurul Syafinas Ishak (female category), Ka Kai Fong (Premier Young Gold award category) and Dr Mohd Lutfi Fadil Lokman (special award category).
