PKR will ask party members appointed politically in the Kelantan government to resign immediately. This was decided at the party political bureau meeting last night, said its president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Pas’ position in the Selangor government was also discussed and its fate will be decided by the party leadership when Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali returns from his overseas trip.

Wan Azizah said the party had accepted Pas’ decision to end its tahalluf siyasi (political cooperation) with PKR, but rejected the reasons behind it.

“We’ve tried to maintain good relationship with Pas. We will now work with other Pakatan Harapan members and other parties to face the 14th General Election.”

Pas’ Syura Council formally sealed the proposal to sever ties with PKR on May 11, leading to scrutiny of its representatives in the PKR-led Selangor government.

Three Pas leaders hold executive council positions in Selangor, alongside PKR and DAP members.

They are Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Zaidy Abdul Talib.

The sole PKR assemblyman in Kelantan is Mohd Roslan Puteh (Guchil).

However, PKR has a number of appointments in local councils.

Last Thursday, three PKR members were appointed as councillors to the Ketereh Islamic Municipal Council.

The Kelantan state executive councillor for local government, housing, youth and sport Datuk Abdul Fattah Mahmood had said PKR councillors for local authorities would still be appointed for the 2017 session.

PKR appointments as coordinators for state and parliamentary seats would also be maintained, Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah was reported as saying.

Wan Azizah said last month PKR was ready to contest against Pas in the next general election

She said this following Pas’ decision to field candidates in all seats contested by PKR in the coming election.
