PKR ap­pointees in Ke­lan­tan govt to step down

THIS was de­cided at the party’s po­lit­i­cal bureau meet­ing last night. The party will also de­cide on Pas’ fate in the Se­lan­gor govt when the men­teri be­sar re­turns from his over­seas trip. The PKR pres­i­dent says it will work with other Pakatan Hara­pan mem­bers


PKR will ask party mem­bers ap­pointed po­lit­i­cally in the Ke­lan­tan govern­ment to re­sign im­me­di­ately. This was de­cided at the party po­lit­i­cal bureau meet­ing last night, said its pres­i­dent, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Az­izah Wan Is­mail.

Pas’ po­si­tion in the Se­lan­gor govern­ment was also dis­cussed and its fate will be de­cided by the party lead­er­ship when Se­lan­gor Men­teri Be­sar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali re­turns from his over­seas trip.

Wan Az­izah said the party had ac­cepted Pas’ de­ci­sion to end its tahal­luf siyasi (po­lit­i­cal co­op­er­a­tion) with PKR, but re­jected the rea­sons be­hind it.

“We’ve tried to main­tain good re­la­tion­ship with Pas. We will now work with other Pakatan Hara­pan mem­bers and other par­ties to face the 14th Gen­eral Elec­tion.”

Pas’ Syura Coun­cil for­mally sealed the pro­posal to sever ties with PKR on May 11, lead­ing to scru­tiny of its rep­re­sen­ta­tives in the PKR-led Se­lan­gor govern­ment.

Three Pas lead­ers hold ex­ec­u­tive coun­cil po­si­tions in Se­lan­gor, along­side PKR and DAP mem­bers.

They are Datuk Iskan­dar Ab­dul Sa­mad, Datuk Dr Ah­mad Yunus Hairi and Zaidy Ab­dul Talib.

The sole PKR as­sem­bly­man in Ke­lan­tan is Mohd Roslan Puteh (Guchil).

How­ever, PKR has a num­ber of ap­point­ments in lo­cal coun­cils.

Last Thursday, three PKR mem­bers were ap­pointed as coun­cil­lors to the Ketereh Is­lamic Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil.

The Ke­lan­tan state ex­ec­u­tive coun­cil­lor for lo­cal govern­ment, hous­ing, youth and sport Datuk Ab­dul Fat­tah Mah­mood had said PKR coun­cil­lors for lo­cal au­thor­i­ties would still be ap­pointed for the 2017 ses­sion.

PKR ap­point­ments as co­or­di­na­tors for state and par­lia­men­tary seats would also be main­tained, Deputy Men­teri Be­sar Datuk Mohd Amar Ab­dul­lah was re­ported as say­ing.

Wan Az­izah said last month PKR was ready to con­test against Pas in the next gen­eral elec­tion

She said this fol­low­ing Pas’ de­ci­sion to field can­di­dates in all seats con­tested by PKR in the coming elec­tion.
