Australian father, son killed in crash
ISKANDAR PUTERI: A father and son from Australia were killed when the pickup truck they were in collided with a multipurpose vehicle at Km3.6 of the Sultan Iskandar Highway near Horizon Hills yesterday.
Troy Justin Youngnickel, 45, a project director of a design company, and his 4-year-old son, Jai Geofrey Roy, were killed at the scene in the 12.35pm accident.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Hashim Mohamad said Youngnickel was believed to have lost control of the Toyota Hilux he was driving from Johor Baru towards Legoland Malaysia.
He said the pickup truck crashed through the steel divider and collided with a Toyota Vellfire.
“The driver and passenger of the Hilux were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.”
Noor Hashim said the driver and passenger of the Vellfire, two men aged 31 and 18, escaped with minor injuries and were taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
“The bodies of the deceased were taken to the same hospital for post-mortems,” he said, adding that six firemen from the Iskandar Puteri station were despatched to the scene to extricate the bodies of the Youngnickels from their vehicle.
