UPGRADE SAFETY FEATURES AT RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS
KUANTAN: The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department is conducting fire safety checks at all public and private religious schools in the state.
Its director, Datuk Abdul Wahab Mat Yasin, said the inspections were done in stages and would be completed by 2019.
“At this time, around 20 per cent of the total identified 137 religious schools (in Pahang) have been inspected.
“The initial result of this inspection revealed that some of the schools need to be upgraded to improve its safety features due to the dilapidated condition of the buildings.
“We also advised the owners or operators of the religious schools to ensure they abide by safety regulations to prevent untoward incidents,” he said.
This was said after officiating the state-level 2017 International Firefighters Day celebration on Thursday.
Wahab said besides conducting inspections on the structure of buildings or premises of religious schools, the department also carried out safety campaigns and public demonstrations on how to fight fires.
The department also provided fire-fighting equipment such as fire extinguishers and installed smoke detectors in dormitories.
