Magnificent seven for SSTMI
TUNKU TUNKU Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Thunderbolts edged Pahang Hockey Academy (PHA) Thunderbolts 43 on shootout after their TNB Cup final ended 2-2 at the Tun Razak Stadium yesterday.
It was SSTMI’s seventh Junior Hockey League (JHL) Overall title.
For SSTMI Thunderbolts, the goals were scored by Akhimullah Esook (ninth) and Fikri Amerrunizzar (24th).
Hazzim Amin (ninth) and Idris Samad (54th) scored for Pahang Thunderbolts to take the match into a shootout.
In the women’s TNB Cup final, SSTMI celebrated their WJHL double after winning the penalty shootout 3-2 following a 1-1 draw by Kuala Lumpur Sports SchoolWipers. KLSS-Wipers squandered two golden opportunities but walked tall at the Tun Razak Stadium as they had the best chance of breaking SSTMI’s domination in the WJHL.
Since the 2016 final, it was SSTMI who stood tall over their arch rivals. They defeated KLSSWipers 2-1 in the final last year and triumphed 1-0 in the League this season.
Hasya Syahida Saifuddin, who is the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals, had earlier pushed KL Wipers to the front with a fourth minute penalty corner goal but SSTMI came back with a 49th minute equaliser through Norrobiatun Norhisham.
“It was a great performance from my players especially in the third and fourth quarters. They had not settled down in the first half but came back strongly. For a moment I thought it was a KLSSWipers show until we scored the equaliser,” said SSTMI coach Azlizam Abdul Shukor.
