Set to exceed RM80m target
SPORTS Minister Khairy Jamaluddin believes Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017) will exceed its target of RM80 million (cash and in kind) in sponsorship for the Sea Games in August.
“There are still plenty of sponsors yet to be announced and after today’s sponsorship with Grab, we have reached 98 per cent of the target and there are still a couple of deals that have yet to be announced,” he said yesterday after announcing Grab as the Official Ride Hailing Partner for KL2017.
Grab will come in as a Gold Sponsor, a category for sponsorship from RM3 million to RM7.5 million.
Meanwhile, Khairy announced the National Sports Council complex in Bukit Jalil as the Sea Games venue for archery instead of the originally proposed Dataran Merdeka.
“Dataran Merdeka will be used for the Independence Day celebrations, so it’s not enough time to turn around so the decision was made to have it at Bukit Jalil.
“I wanted it to be at Dataran Merdeka because then a lot can come and watch but it clashes with the Independence Day celebrations.”
Archery will take place from August 16-22 with 10 gold medals up for grabs in both compound and recurve events. Farah Azharie
