Wanted criminal shot dead
KAMPAR: A wanted criminal, believed to be the mastermind of Geng Pam and Geng 04, was killed in a shootout with police in Jalan Air Kuning-Kampung Gajah yesterday.
The 3.30pm incident saw the 40-year-old man killed after being shot twice in the chest.
State police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said checks showed the man had a criminal record of seven cases between 2006 and 2013 for robbery and vehicle theft, and had once been held under the Emergency Ordinance at the Simpang Renggam detention centre in Johor.
Hasnan said the man was suspected to have been involved in recent robberies in Tapah, Ayer Tawar and Manjung which saw losses totaling RM500,000.
“Further investigation found that the suspect was also involved in a few gangster activities in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. He was also believed to be the head of Geng Pam and Geng 04 in Ipoh,” he said at the shootout location.
The man had earlier been spotted by a patrol police team driving a Honda City along Jalan Air Kuning-Teluk Intan.
