Wanted crim­i­nal shot dead

KAMPAR: A wanted crim­i­nal, be­lieved to be the mas­ter­mind of Geng Pam and Geng 04, was killed in a shootout with po­lice in Jalan Air Kun­ing-Kam­pung Ga­jah yes­ter­day.

The 3.30pm in­ci­dent saw the 40-year-old man killed af­ter be­ing shot twice in the chest.

State po­lice chief Datuk Has­nan Has­san said checks showed the man had a crim­i­nal record of seven cases be­tween 2006 and 2013 for rob­bery and ve­hi­cle theft, and had once been held un­der the Emer­gency Or­di­nance at the Sim­pang Renggam de­ten­tion cen­tre in Jo­hor.

Has­nan said the man was sus­pected to have been in­volved in re­cent rob­beries in Ta­pah, Ayer Tawar and Man­jung which saw losses to­tal­ing RM500,000.

“Fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion found that the sus­pect was also in­volved in a few gang­ster ac­tiv­i­ties in Se­lan­gor and Kuala Lumpur. He was also be­lieved to be the head of Geng Pam and Geng 04 in Ipoh,” he said at the shootout lo­ca­tion.

The man had ear­lier been spot­ted by a pa­trol po­lice team driv­ing a Honda City along Jalan Air Kun­ing-Teluk In­tan.
