Duo told to en­ter de­fence over mis­use of hospi­tal prop­erty

SHAH ALAM: An army pathol­o­gist and a lab tech­nol­o­gist were yes­ter­day or­dered by the Ses­sions Court to en­ter their de­fence on charges of mis­us­ing prop­erty be­long­ing to Hospi­tal Angkatan Ten­tera Tuanku Mirzan (MATTM) with­out the hospi­tal’s knowl­edge.

Judge Sla­mat Yahya ruled that the pros­e­cu­tion had proven a prima fa­cie case against both men.

Dr R. Ku­nasee­garan, 54, faces six charges of mis­us­ing the hospi­tal’s prop­erty, and Yazid Lamin, 46, faces three charges of abet­ting the for­mer.

In or­der­ing the men to en­ter their de­fence, Sla­mat also said al­though there were some con­tra­dic­tions, ev­i­dence showed that three items of equip­ment were brought out of the hospi­tal.

Dr Ku­nasee­garan was charged with us­ing equip­ment be­long­ing to MATTM, in­clud­ing a Mi­cro­tome, Mi­cro­tome Ro­tary Sys­tem and Cir­cu­lar Paraf­fin Float­ing Bath.

The of­fences were al­legedly com­mit­ted at No. 23 and No. 26, Em­pire Gallery, Jalan Em­pa­yar through Jalan Sul­tan Ibrahim, Klang, near here, in June 2010 and April 2012.

A to­tal of 23 pros­e­cu­tion wit­nesses tes­ti­fied.

Dr Ku­nasee­garan and Yazid were rep­re­sented by Datuk Geethan Ram Vin­cent, while deputy pub­lic pros­e­cu­tor Mo­hammed Heikal Is­mail rep­re­sented the pros­e­cu­tion.
