Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd op­posed to sur­charge

KUALA LUMPUR: Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd (TNGSB) is tak­ing a se­ri­ous view of con­sumers’ con­cerns about the im­po­si­tion of a 10 per cent sur­charge at some park­ing lots.

Its cor­po­rate sales, mar­ket­ing and com­mu­ni­ca­tions divi­sion head, Aina Ab­dul­lah, said it sup­ported the “no sur­charge fee” busi­ness model and was con­duct­ing ne­go­ti­a­tions with park­ing op­er­a­tors, build­ing own­ers and in­ter­ested par­ties to waive the sur­charge.

“This ef­fort has re­sulted in the es­tab­lish­ment of nearly 20 park­ing sites that pro­vide cash­less ser­vices with­out sur­charge,” she said.

“While this is a small num­ber, TNGSB will con­tinue to en­cour­age cur­rent and fu­ture part­ners to pro­vide Touch ‘n Go ser­vices with­out im­pos­ing ad­di­tional fees.

“While cash is still the pre­ferred method of pay­ment at many park­ing sites, some own­ers and op­er­a­tors have also cho­sen to adopt the Touch ‘n Go sys­tem as it pro­vides a safe and con­ve­nient method of pay­ment for cus­tomers.”

She said the in­stal­la­tion of a Touch ‘n Go sys­tem at park­ing sites of­ten in­volved sev­eral par­ties, in par­tic­u­lar the park­ing op­er­a­tor, build­ing owner and sys­tem in­te­gra­tor.

“Nat­u­rally, the costs of in­stal­la­tion, sys­tem in­te­gra­tion and on­go­ing main­te­nance are of con­cern to all par­ties in­volved.

“The sur­charge is a cost re­cov­ery mech­a­nism mu­tu­ally agreed on by park­ing op­er­a­tors, build­ing own­ers, sys­tem in­te­gra­tion ven­dors, and Touch ‘n Go to en­sure that this con­ve­nient al­ter­na­tive is avail­able to cus­tomers.

“TNGSB pro­motes a ‘no sur­charge fee’ busi­ness model.

“How­ever, the model’s suc­cess­ful im­ple­men­ta­tion re­quires the co­op­er­a­tion of all par­ties con­cerned.

“TNGSB con­tin­ues to wel­come sug­ges­tions and feed­back in its ef­fort to nur­ture an ecosys­tem that pro­vides a con­ve­nient and cost ef­fec­tive cash­less so­lu­tion for the pub­lic.”
