Food-lov­ing cou­ple man­u­fac­tures cheesy kuih

KAN­GAR: For 11 years, Dzul­fadli El­lias worked hard and only earned up to RM5,000 a month from man­ag­ing a restau­rant here in town.

Three years ago, the 35-yearold tied the knot with Nu­rul Na­jwa Sha­farud­din, who shares his pas­sion for cooking. Soon af­ter, Dzul­fadli re­alised he needed to do more to pro­vide for his fam­ily.

Both Dzul­fadli and Na­jwa, 26, had am­bi­tions, but never in their wildest dreams had they thought that one day they would own a food pro­cess­ing fac­tory and sell their own prod­ucts.

Bet­ter still, the busi­ness pulls in up to RM20,000 in monthly rev­enue.

Their suc­cess story be­gan in 2014, when upon ex­per­i­ment­ing with new kuih recipes, Dzul­fadli and Na­jwa tried their hands at cre­at­ing “cheese curry puffs”.

“Both of us love cooking and mak­ing pas­tries. Na­jwa is the one es­pe­cially adept at mak­ing kuih. She would some­times make curry puffs for cater­ing just to earn a side in­come,” said Dzul­fadli when met at the Small and Medi­um­sized En­treprises Week 2017 at Gi­ant Hyper­mar­ket on Fri­day.
