New Straits Times - - Cars Bikes & Trucks - ERCEDES-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd has in­tro­duced the facelifted Mercedes GLA to the Malaysian mar­ket, of­fer­ing three vari­ants with a start­ing price of RM239,888.


MThe three vari­ants pre­sented were the GLA 200 Ur­ban Line, GLA 250 4Matic AMG and the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4Matic.

“The new-gen­er­a­tion GLA with its unique char­ac­ter and pro­gres­sive ap­pear­ance is des­tined to be­come a style icon. With a sport­ing soul and a dy­namic char­ac­ter com­bined with its stylish high­lights, it is per­fectly suited for an ac­tive life­style,” said its vice-pres­i­dent of sales and mar­ket­ing pas­sen­ger cars Mark Raine dur­ing the launch­ing cer­e­mony.

The facelifted com­pact sports util­ity ve­hi­cle (SUV) has re­ceived a bunch of up­grades on its ex­te­rior and in­te­rior which in­clude - front bumper, side in­take vents, front grille, rear bumper, rear dif­fuser, in­stru­ment clus­ter, new seat up- hol­stery and trim, new al­loy wheels and a new “Canyon Beige” colour op­tion.

Other up­grades avail­able in the GLA in­cludes - an Ap­ple CarPlay and An­droid Auto sup­port en­ter­tain­ment sys­tem, 360-de­gree sur­round-view cam­era sys­tem, re­verse cam­era and an eight-inch free-stand­ing dis­play screen.

All three vari­ants came fit­ted with easy-pack tail­gate, key­less-go start­ing func­tion, ac­tive brake as­sist, cruise con­trol, ther­motronic cli­mate con­trol sys­tem and at­ten­tion as­sist.

The GLA facelift came with the same pow­er­trains and out­put as its pre­vi­ous ver­sions. The GLA 200 is pow­ered by the 1.6-litre tur­bocharged four-cylin­der en­gine that pro­duces 154 hp at 5,300 rpm and 200 Nm of torque from 1,250 to 4,000 rpm. Mean­while, the GLA 250 is equipped with the 2.0 litre tur­bocharged four-cylin­der en­gine that of­fers 211 hp at 5,500 rpm with 350Nm of torque from 1,200 to 4,000 rpm. The two en­gines are mated to a seven-speed 7G-DCT dual-clutch au­to­matic trans­mis­sion.

The Malaysian-spec GLA 200 and GLA 250 are equipped with an off-road com­fort sus­pen­sion, a pack­age that presents the car with a 30mm higher stance and im­proves the ve­hi­cle’s axle ar­tic­u­la­tion and off-road ca­pa­bil­ity.

Mercedes also of­fered a num­ber of drive modes in its Dy­namic se­lect. Both the GLA 200 and GLA 250 gets the Com­fort, Sport, Eco and In­di­vid­ual op­tions. How­ever, the GLA 250 has the ad­di­tional Off-Road op­tion, which adds the down­hill speed reg­u­la­tion and an off-road trans­mis­sion mode in the Off-Road op­tion.

The facelifted Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4Matic is pow­ered by a 2.0-litre four-cylin­der tur­bocharged en­gine which is able to churn out 381hp at 6,000rpm and 475Nm of torque from 2,250 to 5,000rpm. It is paired to an AMG Speed­shift DCT seven-speed sports trans­mis­sion.

Mercedes-Benz claims

that the all-wheel drive AMG 45 4Matic is ca­pa­ble of sprint­ing from zero to 100kph in 4.4 sec­onds and has a top speed of 250kph.

The Mercedes Benz GLA 200 Ur­ban Line is priced at RM239,888, while the GLA 250 4Matic AMG Line is re­tailed for RM269,888. Mean­while, the range-top­ping Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4Matic goes for RM408,888. All prices are in­clu­sive of six per cent GST but ex­clud­ing in­surance.
