The notice, which took effect on May 15, had prevented the developers from carrying out any earth or construction work until a withdrawal date for construction work is issued at a date to be announced later.

State exco member for Environment, Chinese, Indian and Siamese Community Affairs, Health and Unity, Datuk Dr Leong Yong Kong said he was aware of the notice.

“The notice was issued following complaints from many quarters, including local residents, who feared that construction work near the sea could threaten the environment.

“After an investigation was carried out, it was decided to stop implementation of the project.” On April 4, almost 100 residents of Kampung Tepi Laut and Kampung Tunku Laksamana had protested the sea reclamation work to implement the Aman Laut mixed development project.
