26 held over Ma­cau scam

ME­LAKA: Two Tai­wanese “Ma­cau Scam” mas­ter­minds were among 26 sus­pects ar­rested in Ayer Keroh here.

In less than a week, nearly 100 peo­ple were held in three states over the scam.

In Jo­hor, 55 sus­pects were ar­rested in the Bukit In­dah res­i­den­tial area on Wed­nes­day last week. On Thurs­day, the Se­lan­gor po­lice nabbed 19 sus­pects from Taman Subang Me­wah.

In the lat­est raid on Fri­day, State deputy po­lice chief Datuk Rus­lan Has­san said mem­bers of the syn­di­cate were ap­pre­hended at an up­scale bun­ga­low, which was used as a “call cen­tre” in Ayer Keroh here.

“The syn­di­cate has been ac­tive for three months,” he said, adding that among those held were 12 men and 13 women com­pris­ing Tai­wanese and Chi­nese na­tion­als and one Malaysian.

The two mas­ter­minds, aged 39 and 47, were also caught in the premises.

Rus­lan said po­lice had solved 48 cases re­ported last year and 52 cases be­tween Jan­uary and April in­volv­ing more than RM13.4mil­lion.
