26 held over Macau scam
MELAKA: Two Taiwanese “Macau Scam” masterminds were among 26 suspects arrested in Ayer Keroh here.
In less than a week, nearly 100 people were held in three states over the scam.
In Johor, 55 suspects were arrested in the Bukit Indah residential area on Wednesday last week. On Thursday, the Selangor police nabbed 19 suspects from Taman Subang Mewah.
In the latest raid on Friday, State deputy police chief Datuk Ruslan Hassan said members of the syndicate were apprehended at an upscale bungalow, which was used as a “call centre” in Ayer Keroh here.
“The syndicate has been active for three months,” he said, adding that among those held were 12 men and 13 women comprising Taiwanese and Chinese nationals and one Malaysian.
The two masterminds, aged 39 and 47, were also caught in the premises.
Ruslan said police had solved 48 cases reported last year and 52 cases between January and April involving more than RM13.4million.
