Bangladesh gets US$616m from ADB

DHAKA: The Asian De­vel­op­ment Bank (ADB) will pro­vide a US$616 mil­lion loan to Bangladesh to help the coun­try meet its goal of pro­vid­ing 100 per cent ac­cess to elec­tric­ity to its ci­ti­zens by 2021. The pro­ject in­cludes re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion and ex­pan­sion of over 50,000km of ru­ral dis­tri­bu­tion net­work, con­struc­tion of a 174-km 400 kV trans­mis­sion link be­tween south­ern Bangladesh and Dhaka, and in­stal­la­tion of au­to­mated con­trol sys­tems for the dis­tri­bu­tion net­work in the cap­i­tal.
