Tour agencies the best bet to develop Selangor district tourism

-

is right that district tourism is given more attention by Selangor authorities.

The state, which has tourist attractions in its nine districts, has not been able to realise its full potential. This is one of the reasons why its tourism earnings are far behind that of Melaka and Penang.

Since Selangor is a large state with cities and towns, urban, suburban and rural areas, district tourism is the right approach to give tourism greater focus and importance.

To do this, the Selangor government and its Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Environment Committee need to pick at least five travel and tour firms to promote the urban districts, and two to five for rural districts.

District tourism promotion is best done by established tour firms as they can be relied on to provide input and feedback to boost tourism.

This will enable the tour firms to focus on their districts. It will be a win-win situation for the state government and tour firms.

Many of the less-frequented and less-famous attractions can be brought to the forefront and generate income for residents. Billboards, banners, posters and brochures can draw attention to district tourism.

Meetings and seminars can be arranged by the state government to create awareness about district tourism.

There is a lot of tourism potential in Selangor. Unfortunately, tourist activities are confined to shopping and related activities.

Every district has unique attractions, and it is time tourism is made an important component of the state’s economy.

A lot of tourist activities and places can be promoted intensively.

Tourism can be a big revenue earner for Selangor, and district tourism can be the catalyst.

?? ?? The Selangor government should realise the full potential of district tourism.
