Co­conut plucker raped her in kitchen last month

ACOCONUT plucker, who pleaded guilty to rap­ing his 14-year-old daugh­ter last month, was sen­tenced to 15 years’ jail and 10 strokes of the rotan by the Ses­sion Court here yes­ter­day.

Judge Nazri Is­mail handed the sen­tence down to the 41-yearold after he ad­mit­ted to the of­fence when it was read out to him in court.

The fa­ther of three, who was clad in pur­ple lock-up at­tire, re­mained calm when the sen­tence was passed, but was heard mum­bling to him­self. None of his fam­ily mem­bers was in court.

He was charged with rap­ing his daugh­ter at 3pm at the kitchen of his house in Kam­pung Tasek in Badang here on July 15.

The charge was made un­der Sec­tion 376 (3) of the Pe­nal Code, which car­ries a max­i­mum sen­tence of 30 years’ im­pris­on­ment and a min­i­mum of 10 strokes of the rotan if found guilty.

Ear­lier, de­fence coun­sel Hayat Muhamad ap­pealed for a light sen­tence as the ac­cused suf­fers from fail­ing eye­sight. He had saved the court time by plead­ing guilty.

Deputy pub­lic pros­e­cu­tor No­ra­zli­nawati Mohd Ar­sha, how­ever, asked for a de­ter­rent sen­tence as the vic­tim was trau­ma­tised by the in­ci­dent.

Nazri or­dered that the sen­tence to start from the date of ar­rest on July 15.
