Four Kangar pupils hospitalised after mercury spill at school lab
KANGAR: Twelve pupils from SK Behor Mali here were rushed to the Simpang Empat Clinic following a mercury spill at the school’s laboratory yesterday.
Four of the pupils, aged 11, were later rushed to Tuanku Fauziah Hospital after they complained of headache and vomiting.
State Health director Dr Zaini Hussin said the four were suffering headaches due to exposure to the mercury.
They were in stable condition at the hospital, he added.
“The pupils are under observation.”
Perlis Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operation) Muhammad Firdaus Yusop said they received a distress call at 12.56pm.
“A team of four men took about an hour to clean up the mercury on a lab table.
“The operation was completed at 2.57pm.”
A mercury spill was reported at SK Behor Mali in Kangar yesterday.
