Teen to be charged with rape to­day

ALOR STAR: An 18-year-old from Sun­gai La­yar, who was de­tained for al­legedly rap­ing his two sis­ters, will be charged at the Sun­gai Pe­tani mag­is­trate’s court to­day.

Kuala Muda deputy po­lice chief Su­per­in­ten­dent Saifi Abd Hamid said the teen would be charged un­der Sec­tion 376B of the Pe­nal Code for rape, which car­ries a max­i­mum 30 years’ jail and whip­ping if con­victed.

It is learnt that po­lice re­ceived an or­der from the state deputy pub­lic pros­e­cu­tor’s of­fice to pro­ceed with the charge af­ter re­sub­mit­ting the in­ves­ti­ga­tion pa­per yes­ter­day morn­ing.

It was re­ported that the teen, the third of 12 sib­lings, was de­tained 13 days ago fol­low­ing a re­port lodged by his mother that he had al­legedly raped his 8-yearold sis­ter.

He was ar­rested when he turned up at the Kuala Muda po­lice head­quar­ters a day af­ter his mother lodged the re­port.
