READY FOR BATTLE
A picture taken on July 3, 1957, showing a man and a woman cycling past a 105 Field Battery, Royal Australian Artillery gun position, which is standing in readiness to support the Royal Australian Regiment Battalion 2 in Kedah. The battalion came into contact with a large group of communist terrorists in the area. Australia sent troops to help its Southeast Asia Collective Defence Treaty (Seato) ally to oppose further communist gains in the region. The first group of Australian troops arrived in Malaya in 1955.
