Malaysian jumper fails to qual­ify for fi­nal

NAURAJ Singh Rand­hawa's bid to qual­ify for the men's high jump fi­nal of the World Cham­pi­onships ended in dis­ap­point­ment in Lon­don yes­ter­day.

The 25-year-old from Jo­hor fin­ished joint-20th over­all on 2.26 me­tres in the qual­i­fy­ing round with only the top 12 mak­ing to­mor­row’s fi­nal.

Nauraj missed three at­tempts at 2.29m which was only a cen­time­tre short of the na­tional record which he set at the Sin­ga­pore Open, earn­ing him di­rect qual­i­fi­ca­tion for the World Cham­pi­onships.

Af­ter clear­ing 2.17m and 2.22m at the first at­tempt, Nauraj took two jumps to move past 2.26m be­fore com­ing un­stuck.
