FMM thanks govt for agree­ing to re­view EIS

KUALA LUMPUR: The Fed­er­a­tion of Malaysian Man­u­fac­tur­ers (FMM) has ex­pressed its grat­i­tude to the govern­ment for agree­ing to re­view the Em­ploy­ment In­sur­ance Sys­tem Bill (EIS).

In a state­ment, the or­gan­i­sa­tion said FMM’s con­cerns on the EIS were high­lighted in a meet­ing with four min­is­ters.

It had also re­ceived the as­sur­ance from th­ese min­is­ters that stake­hold­ers would be con­sulted again on the bill be­fore it is retabled in Par­lia­ment.

“FMM’s con­cerns and rec­om­men­da­tions on the EIS were sub­mit­ted in writ­ing im­me­di­ately af­ter the meet­ing with the min­is­ters.

“The sub­mis­sion cov­ered seven ba­sic prin­ci­ples in the rel­e­vant pro­vi­sions, a list of 15 pro­vi­sions which should be strength­ened and/or re­viewed for greater trans­parency and con­sis­tency, and a list of seven pro­vi­sions re­quir­ing fur­ther clar­i­fi­ca­tion and/or con­fir­ma­tion,” the state­ment read.

At the same time, the or­gan­i­sa­tion said that it was seek­ing a meet­ing with Hu­man Re­sources Min­is­ter Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem for dis­cus­sion on EIS and other hu­man re­sources-re­lated is­sues con­cern­ing the man­u­fac­tur­ing sec­tor.
