500 join patriotic cycle ride despite rain

KOTA KINABALU: A downpour did not dampen the spirits of 500 cyclists as they made their way to the city centre, taking patriotic messages to people.

The participants of the “Kayuhan Patriot Hari Malaysia” programme began cycling from the Sabah Government Administration Complex at 7am.

Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor flagged off the participants on behalf of Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.

The programme was coorganised by the National Civics Bureau (BTN) and Kota Kinabalu City Hall.

Participants cycled for 18km along the Tanjung Lipat coastal road towards Padang Merdeka before returning to the complex.

Among them were Sabah State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman, Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Nor Rizan Mohd Thani, and Sabah Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad.

BTN director-general Datuk Ibrahim Saad, Sabah police commissioner Datuk Ramli Din and Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai also participated in the ride.

Hajiji commended the commitment shown by participants in making the event a success. Sabah BTN director Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali hoped Malaysians would continue to show their love for the country and celebrate Malaysia Day as how they did on National Day.
