SPAD starts en­force­ment ex­er­cise

KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Pub­lic Trans­port Com­mis­sion (SPAD) will con­duct a 10-day en­force­ment ex­er­cise in con­junc­tion with the up­com­ing Deep­avali festive sea­son as part of its ini­tia­tive to en­sure com­muter safety.

In a state­ment yes­ter­day, SPAD said the en­force­ment ex­er­cise, which com­menced yes­ter­day un­til Oct 22, was con­ducted in col­lab­o­ra­tion with other en­force­ment agen­cies such as the po­lice, the Road Trans­port Depart­ment, the Road Safety Depart­ment and the Na­tional Anti-Drug Agency.

“This in­cludes 24-hour beats run­ning from Thurs­day to to­day, Oct 17 to 18, and Oct 21 to 22 when most com­muters are ex­pected to travel.

“Among the mea­sures we will take to curb er­rant bus op­er­a­tors and driv­ers are spe­cial en­force­ment au­dits to ex­am­ine their GPS ve­hi­cle records; un­der­cover op­er­a­tions car­ried out on high-risk bus op­er­a­tors; pa­trolling in high-risk lo­ca­tions and set­ting speed traps; and sur­veil­lance via CCTV cam­eras at High­way Op­er­a­tion Cen­tres in co­op­er­a­tion with the po­lice and high­way au­thor­i­ties.”
