SPAD starts enforcement exercise
KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will conduct a 10-day enforcement exercise in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali festive season as part of its initiative to ensure commuter safety.
In a statement yesterday, SPAD said the enforcement exercise, which commenced yesterday until Oct 22, was conducted in collaboration with other enforcement agencies such as the police, the Road Transport Department, the Road Safety Department and the National Anti-Drug Agency.
“This includes 24-hour beats running from Thursday to today, Oct 17 to 18, and Oct 21 to 22 when most commuters are expected to travel.
“Among the measures we will take to curb errant bus operators and drivers are special enforcement audits to examine their GPS vehicle records; undercover operations carried out on high-risk bus operators; patrolling in high-risk locations and setting speed traps; and surveillance via CCTV cameras at Highway Operation Centres in cooperation with the police and highway authorities.”
