Am­syar seeks con­fi­dence boost in Bukit Jalil

OLYMPIAN Ah­mad Am­syar Az­man is fo­cused on do­ing well in the Malaysia leg of the Div­ing Grand Prix, which starts on Oct 26, in Bukit Jalil.

Am­syar is us­ing the tour­na­ment to pre­pare for next year’s Gold Coast Com­mon­wealth Games and In­done­sia Asian Games.

The Perlis-born be­lieves na­tional coach Yang Zhu­liang can turn him into a world class diver as the China-born trainer has a sys­tem­atic train­ing pro­gramme.

“I want to do my best in the Malaysia leg as it will give me the con­fi­dence for big­ger com­pe­ti­tions. It would be great if I can win a gold medal.

“Zhu­liang is like a fa­ther to me and I see him as one of the best coaches in the world,” said Am­syar, a sil­ver medal­list at the 2014 In­cheon Asian Games.

The Div­ing Grand Prix in Malaysia will be the divers’ first com­pe­ti­tion af­ter the Sea Games. The 25-year-old Am­syar won two gold and one sil­ver at the bi­en­nial games. Aida Adi­lah Mat
